3 Book Suggestions for Parents from a SLP

Here you’ll find 3 of my favorite books to recommend for parents. If you’re looking for even more books for parents on child development, supporting your child at home and enriching your own reading life for fun, join our Book Club!

There really is not a better book for us to start with! This book is about child development in general, and not specifically speech and language skills, but it is still such a wonderful read. Daniel Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson help you to understand your child’s behaviors, and support their cognitive development and emotional intelligence. I highly recommend reading this book with friends or family, and really taking the time to discuss and integrate the strategies they teach. The authors also offer an accompanying workbook. If you are looking for a community to read with, join our waitlist for the Book Club and you’ll be added when it opens this summer. This is a space discuss books for parents, get more resources for your kids, and find community at the same time!

A wonderful book about building a culture of reading aloud in your home, and the benefits of doing so for your family. This book also comes with some incredible book lists for kids of various ages, I highly recommend it and the books from her lists.

Another great books for parents, especially those supporting children with social learning challenges. This book encourages a shift in the types of language and comments we use, toward statement geared to improve connection and understanding.
