5 Apps for Practicing Speech Sounds at Home
Here are 5 of my favorite apps for getting a little extra practice with speech sounds at home. These are NOT a replacement for speech therapy, but they are a great way to practice the speech sounds your therapist has recommended working on in specific ways at home. They are fun and engaging, and have sounds or letters built in! Some of them cost money, but some of them are free or have free versions.
Enjoy!
SpeakEasy
SpeakEasy was built for parents, as a way to promote early language and provide strategies for practicing speech goals at home. They offer a free trial, and then have a monthly or yearly fee for use of the app.
Articulation Station
This app offers one sound for free, and then they require a monthly fee for practice with more sounds. The Little Bee Speech app developers have additional apps available on their website as well.
Teach Your Monster To Read
Teach Your Monster to Read is a great way to practice early reading skills, and to embed speech practice while promoting literacy skills. There is a monthly fee associated with this app.
BITS lab - staRt
The Biofeedback Intervention Technology for Speech Lab at NYU Steinhardt made a FREE app to support kids in learning the /r/ sound. This resource is also included in my list of favorite websites because they have both a web and an app version. The creators have provided a way to help kids visualize their /r/ sound wave, and I would highly encourage this app for therapists to use in treatment as well!
At Home Articulation
The At Home Articulation app also has a free trial, and then an annual or monthly fee. This is another great resource for practicing speech at home!
